ABOUT

The research collective Corps, Costumes de Scènes et d'écrans (CERPCOS) is an offshoot of the costumes group founded in the 1990s by Claudette Joannis, chief heritage curator and then head of collections at the BnF's Performing Arts. After the group dissolved when Ms. Joannis left for Malmaison, it became clear that there was no longer a space for exchanging practices.

However, we had noticed that there was a real need, particularly in listening to future professionals or young researchers and students.

We therefore founded the collective in 2003 as an association under the 1901 law (the statutes are available) with a notable difference: the interest in conservation would be equally linked to the ways of doing things of the creators, artisans and costume makers as well as the approach of the actors in their specific links to the costumes.

Thus the ethnological aspect (the field and the know-how) associated with anthropology (symbolic environment) made it possible to compare perspectives: ethnologists do not see the same thing as historians or curators, and finally it is the costume designers who have the last word in their career.
